South Plains Closing the Gaps P-20 Council
In 2003, Raiders Rojos initiated the Inaugural Education Summit on the South Plains. The event gave rise to the South Plains Closing the Gaps Coalition, now known as the South Plains Closing the Gaps P-20 Council. Raiders Rojos is an active member of the P-20 council. Annually, the network supports recognition of scholarship recipients awarded through the P-20 Council scholarship program. The scholarship program has received funding from The CH Foundation since 2014. Applicants must be graduating from a high school within the Region 17 ESC area. Graduates from private schools in the area are also eligible. The application for the South Plains GenTX Scholarship program is available at www.SouthPlainsGenTX.org . The recognition event for the Fall 2023 recipients will be held at the Merket Alumni Center on May 2, 2023. The P-20 Council will award 50 scholarships in the amount of $1000 to each recipient. The P-20 Council has a network of partner higher education institutions that match the $1000 scholarships with another $1000 if the recipient maintains a GPA of 2.75 or greater. The partner institutions are Texas Tech University, South Plains College, West Texas A&M, Lubbock Christian University, and Angelo State University.
